Historic Overtown Calendar

We hope that you are as excited and interested as we are, in learning more about the history of Overtown.  One of Urban Health Partnerships’ (UHP) community liaisons, Cecilia Stewart, created a calendar to preserve Overtown’s cultural heritage for future generations while enabling others to learn about Miami’s rich African American history. The calendar highlights some of the landmarks of Overtown.  It features historic churches, houses, businesses, schools, organizations and entertainment establishments. Learn about Overtown through the year. Click here to download the digital version of the calendar and contact us if you are interested in a printed version.

My Mother was born Overton in 1927, Miami is where I was born and raised… St. John BC is where I attended service to the LORD and My Father attended Bethel AME on 8th street. It is a continued BLESSING
in my Heart ❤

Beautiful effort. I’ve learned a lot about historical buildings. I am sure the calendar could display more about Black people and events meaningful to the community.
This could be a project to research.
