What is Overtown?

Historic Overtown is a historically Black neighborhood located just northwest of Downtown Miami, Florida. It is Miami’s second-oldest neighborhood and has long been an important center of Black culture, commerce, entertainment, and community life in Miami and South Florida.

Originally known as Colored Town during the segregation era, Overtown became home to thriving businesses, churches, restaurants, music venues, and cultural institutions. Today, the neighborhood is known for its rich history, soul food, community landmarks, cultural events, and ongoing revitalization.
