Melanin Miami

You won’t find many Black history tours in Miami; we’re happy to share this cultural experience with you through the “Harlem of the South.
Walk it. Taste it. Hear the stories. Experience Black Miami.
Melanin Miami is a two-hour walking and tasting experience through Historic Overtown, where Miami’s Black history, food and culture come together.
Once known as the “Harlem of the South,” Overtown has stories around nearly every corner. You’ll learn about Miami’s first Black millionaire, the fight for access to the city’s beaches, Miami’s role in the Civil Rights Movement and the places that welcomed Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X, Sammy Davis Jr. and other icons during segregation.
And we’re not spending two hours simply talking about history. We’re experiencing it.
And yes….food is part of the story, too. Your tour includes a specialty tasting featuring flavors from Miami’s Black community, with time to connect, ask questions and experience the neighborhood beyond names and dates.
Melanin Miami was created for travelers who are curious about culture, hungry for a good story and want their time in Miami to include a deeper connection to the people and communities that shaped it.
